2022, May 28 Leslie "Les" Bonano, a man who you always wanted to have standing in your corner, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Slidell Memorial Hospital. A husband, father, grandfather, policeman, world-class boxing trainer, businessman, Hall-of-Famer, and friend, "the Chief" will be missed by all who knew and respected him. He leaves the ring of life, and our hearts, as the still undefeated champion - 79 and 0 - with memorable knockouts in all of his many undertakings. The son of Leslie Sr. and Rosalie, Les grew up in Hollygrove with three siblings: Mikel, Ronnie, and Susan Rudd. After attending Fortier High School, St. Mary's Dominican and Loyola University, Les would find his vocation in solving high profile criminal cases on the streets of New Orleans as a detective for the NOPD. His reputation for being the fearless, hard-hitting and no-nonsense fists of justice speaks for itself, as shown by his awards and formal recognitions during that time. His law enforcement career in the Crescent City would continue over decades, culminating in a position of leadership as Chief Deputy of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. It was there he created one of his many legacies - a boxing program for inmates to help them achieve better futures outside the walls of a jail cell. His mentorship, friendship and skill as a trainer made a difference in the lives of the young men who were lucky enough to learn from him. Les would later complete his work in public service as the lead investigator for the Louisiana Attorney General's Office. From his beginnings in New Orleans, Les would become recognized on a much bigger stage as the fighters he trained and promoted went on to contend in title bouts. He stood ringside in venues that extended from the Gulf Coast to Las Vegas to destinations across the Atlantic. And as if he wasn't already a larger-than-life figure, Les' star would rise even into Hollywood, with a small speaking role in the Charles Bronson film, Hard Times. While known for his successes in the sports world, nowhere did Les' ranking figure more prominently than in the daily lives of his family. For his wife of 60 years, Mary, and his four children, Darla McGovern (Dennis "Jay"), Deslie Bonano-Broussard (Troy), Derrick (Lisa) and Deano (Jaquie), Les was a strong provider, protector and teacher. For his grandchildren Devin, Dylan, Dominick, Joseph, Kaitlyn, Madelyn, Mason, Evan and Aiden, he was an example of strength and determination, among many other things. Until the very last round, Les fought through the challenges he faced to be there for the ones he loved when it counted the most. We will say goodbye to the Chief this Saturday, May 28, 2022, with services beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Christopher's Church, 309 Manson Street, Metairie, Louisiana 70003. A funeral Mass will take place at 12:30 p.m. A private burial for the family will follow. Bonano, Sr. Mother of Leslie Bonano, Jr., Ronald Bonano, Sr., Mikel Bonano, Sr. and Susan Bonano Rudd. One of 13 children of the late Louis and Mary Grace Nuccio. Survived by 4 brothers: Louis Nuccio, Ignatius Nuccio, Raymond Nuccio and Thomas Nuccio. Grandmother of Daria, Deano, Ronald, Derrick, John, Deslie, Melissa, Scott, Lisa, April, Chad, Michelle and Mikel. Also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews. 2021, January 12 With saddened hearts, we announce that Ronald ""Ronnie"" A. Bonano, Sr., gained his heavenly wings on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the age of 74. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 24, 1946 to the late Lester Joseph Bonano and the late Rosalie Nuccio Bonano. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Susan Marcev Bonano, and his adoring children: Ronald Bonano, Jr. (Angel), John Bonano (Chelly), and Melissa Bonano Faucheux (Lance). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren whom he was affectionally known as ""Faw - Faw"": Karissa Bologna, Jonathan, Joshua, Mia, Liza and Layla Bonano, Hudson and Zoe Faucheux, and his great-grandchildren, Stella and Blaize Armand and Drake Dugas. He will also be dearly missed by his siblings: Leslie Bonano, Jr. (Mary), Mikel Bonano (late, Judy), Susan Bonano Rudd (Mike); his considered ""daughter"", Jeanne Marcev Humphrey (Craig); considered ""grandchildren"", Christopher Meeks (Jamie) and Samantha Humphrey; and considered ""great-grandchildren"", Ruby and Ryker Meeks who affectionally knew him as ""Paw - Paw"". He had a special place in his heart for his Grand dog ""Beignet."" He will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Ronnie was a graduate of East Jefferson High School and attended Southeastern University. Ronnie was known to be an avid golfer and member of the Green Crest Golf Club, The 19th Hole Golf Club, and Shadowlawn Golf Club and loved to play golf with his family and friends. Ronnie followed in the footsteps of his father and was a successful carpenter. He had a tenured successful career with Landis Construction Co., where he was a Superintendent and made many wonderful friendships along the way. He was as handy as they come and could repair just about anything. He always loved to share his wealth of construction knowledge with all he knew. 2022, July 29 Fredericka "Mary" Bonano, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away in Slidell on Sunday, July 24, 2022. The daughter of Lucille Mitchell Dupre, Mary grew up New Orleans, graduated from Fortier High School, and married her high school sweetheart, Les Bonano, who would be with her for 60 years. "Mere," as she known to all, lived to the fullest and had endless energy. She was an avid gardener and landscaper. She always had a home improvement project underway and used a collection of tools that most handymen would envy. She was a gifted seamstress, home maker, and craft artist who enjoyed sharing her talents with those who knew her. As a cook, her famous macaroni and cheese was the centerpiece of every family holiday gathering. For those with a sweet tooth, her freezer full of ice cream and frozen treats and her fridge holding every sort of soft drink was a grandchild's dream. Mary is survived by her four children, Darla McGovern (Dennis "Jay"), Deano (Jaquie), Derrick (Lisa) and Deslie Bonano-Broussard (Troy), her grandchildren Devin, Dylan, Dominick, Joseph, Mason, Evan, Aiden, Kaitlyn, and Madelyn, as well as her siblings Annette Bell and Ethel Zansler.
